The act of dieting tells your body to ignore internal appetite and satiety cues undermining the mechanism that allow you to eat normally. It has been found that heavier than ideal populations that diet less are healthy and live longer than populations that diet more which may be due to less pressure to lose. For those people who do maintain their weightloss from dieting, these dieters do not necessarily live longer and some evidence has been found that they die earlier than people who maintain a higher weight. If diets do not work, it really does not make sense to go on blaming the person. Scientists and clinicians keep doing the same intervention expecting different results saying that fat people lack will power and need to diet. This is unrealistic and the healthcare community needs to come up with interventions that work better for overall health improvement in fat people.
Success needs to be thought of in terms of the individual not according to somebody else's body. Stop thinking of your body in terms of others and start focusing on your own overall health. What is healthy for one is not healthy for everyone. No one can fit into the cookie cutter image that Hollywood and magazines have perpetuated. The sooner you accept that you will never be a size -1, the sooner you will be happier and healthier. Put the focus on day to day decision you make when you eat and eat good, tasty fuel and fun activities that express you in order to live a good life regardless of size. In addition, define for yourself a healthy weight not through generic height/weight charts or the body mass index, but by the weight you are when living a reasonable life i.e. the weight your body defends when you diet or if you eat more than you are hungry for.
