Improving Your Self-Perception: Exuding Confidence Through Your Clothes

As a larger women myself, it took me a long time to accept myself and not cave to the pressure of how others perceive me. In the end, all that matters is how I see yourself and not how others see you. I think it is important for any size women to be able to accept their size in order to live healthier spiritually and physically. A lot of the problems that large people have originate with stress and peer pressure from television, magazines, friends, families, and even strangers. After researching many articles about weight from actual doctors who specialize in weight issue, I have come to some conclusions and can offer also some helpful advice about what you can do.

The act of dieting tells your body to ignore internal appetite and satiety cues undermining the mechanism that allow you to eat normally. It has been found that heavier than ideal populations that diet less are healthy and live longer than populations that diet more which may be due to less pressure to lose. For those people who do maintain their weightloss from dieting, these dieters do not necessarily live longer and some evidence has been found that they die earlier than people who maintain a higher weight. If diets do not work, it really does not make sense to go on blaming the person. Scientists and clinicians keep doing the same intervention expecting different results saying that fat people lack will power and need to diet. This is unrealistic and the healthcare community needs to come up with interventions that work better for overall health improvement in fat people.

Success needs to be thought of in terms of the individual not according to somebody else's body. Stop thinking of your body in terms of others and start focusing on your own overall health. What is healthy for one is not healthy for everyone. No one can fit into the cookie cutter image that Hollywood and magazines have perpetuated. The sooner you accept that you will never be a size -1, the sooner you will be happier and healthier. Put the focus on day to day decision you make when you eat and eat good, tasty fuel and fun activities that express you in order to live a good life regardless of size. In addition, define for yourself a healthy weight not through generic height/weight charts or the body mass index, but by the weight you are when living a reasonable life i.e. the weight your body defends when you diet or if you eat more than you are hungry for.

As a larger women or dare I say fat person myself, it took me years to deprogram what society teaches us from birth which is skinny is always better. I can say as a larger person that I am as healthy as horse and have no health problems. It is possible that people come in a ranges of fatness like they do in height. People don't have a problem with height, but lots of people have a problem with average to heavy people. This does not mean you have to believe the same or feel bad. To me, clothes help me to exude confidence on a budget. I walk taller and prouder because I know I look good.
